5 things we should know about you:
1. Love God- He has given me the talent to race and I try to use that for His glory, not my own!!
2. I have taken the 2011 season off as I am pregnant with our 1st child. Due Aug 17th.
3. Love Chocolate-eat it everyday
4. If I wasn't doing triathlons I'd play a lot more tennis, still love to get out on the court a couple times a year!
5. We have a new german shepard puppy, Zeke, and I can't wait for him to be old enough to be my running partner!!
How did you first get into triathlons?
Growing up my main sports were soccer, tennis and swimming. Burnt out of swimming by high school, I quit and focused on soccer and tennis. I went on to win 2 HS tennis state title and 1 HS soccer state title. I entered college ( Univ. of Cal @ San Diego) without plans to compete in a sport, but I missed the structure and training. I decided to get back in the water and walked on to the UCSD swim team a year later. I swam backstroke and 200IM for 3 years. You can only swim and run (I did a lot of running for cross training) before people begin to ask about triathlon. A few years after graduation, my father (who also does tris) bought me a bike and signed me up for Danskin Austin 2004. I spent a few days riding up and down the street trying to clip in and out of my pedals. With my dad cheering on, I went on to have a great 1st race and have been hooked since!!
What was the first race you ever participated in and what place did you finish?
Danskin 2004, I won my age group and was 12th overall
What is your favorite race?
toss up...between Escape from Alcatraz and St. Croix 70.3- Alcatraz-although I don't love the bike (a bit technical) I love the swim and the run. never a min of boredom on this course. Also love the shorter distance! St. Croix - love the island spirit and challenging course
What is your favorite workout?
When we were living in Pasadena, I loved my long rides in the San Gabriel mountains. During the week there was very little traffic and it was very peaceful, making me forget LA chaos was just below me. Now that we are back in Austin, I like my master swim workouts. Love the coach, people and facility!!
What are your favorite Zoot products and why?
Compression tights for sure!! I work 10-12 hour shifts in the ER and they are a life saver for recovery!!
What is your proudest accomplishment?
Finishing my 1st Ironman, which was Kona 2007. It was a long, hard day. My parents were not able to travel to the race at the last minute, but I had my fiancé, brother and friends to support. God gave me the strength and courage to fight thru the tough parts and come to the finish line with a smile!!
What motivates you?
God...He has given me this athletic talent and I want to use that talent for His glory. If I am not giving my all in everything I do, I am not appreciating what He has given me.
My husband...he is the best iron sherpa out there!!
What is your pre-race meal?
bagel w/ peanut butter and mix berry mix one!!
What is your pre-race ritual?
My dad races most of the same races with me so we always meet up after setting up transition and have a pre race prayer together. if he is not racing, I either find him and my husband in the crowd and we will pray. The swim start is always stressful for me, so this helps to give me peace before the chaos.
What is in your triathlon bag that you cannot live without?
electric tape (can be used for SO many things)
safety pins- I have lost my chip strap before and never again
Zoot flip flops-get out of my shoes and into these asap!!
asthma inhaler- always have 2 or 3 in my bag
large sharpie pen - don't have to stand in body marking line
What are your goals for the 2011 season?
Have a healthy baby!!!
may consider racing in oct, but we will see how everything is going with the new baby!!
