After earning a Masters degree in Kinesiology, she worked as a personal trainer for eight years and now runs her own personal training/coaching business in the San Francisco Bay Area. Since Megumi grew up swimming competitively, triathlon became a natural progression when her friend introduced the sport to her. Living in the United States has allowed Megumi the opportunity to be able obtain professional success and compete at high level in triathlon. She loves being involved in triathlon and enjoys the whole experience including training/racing, sense of self-accomplishment, and meeting a lot of nice people. Megumi hopes that her performance will inspire her friends, clients, and other competitors. </p> <p><b>How did you first get into triathlons?</b></p> <p>My friend, who was a professional triathlete, was having her third child.<br /> Since she would not be riding her bike for a while, she told me to ride her bike and try to do a race. Her husband taught me how to ride a road bike (which I had never ridden before) and took me on the training rides. That was 11 years ago and was the beginning... </p> <p><b>What was the first race you ever participated in and what place did you finish?</b></p> <p>The very first triathlon was South Bay Triathlon at UVAS Reservoir in Morgan Hill, CA in 2000. It was Swim: 0.75mile, Bike: 16miles, Run: 5miles.<br /> I placed 5th in Age-Group. </p> <p><b>What is your favorite race?</b></p> <p>My favorite race is Triathlon at Pacific Grove.<br /> I liked the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Clearwater, FL.</p> <p><b>What is your favorite workout?</b></p> <p>Long run on the trail</p> <p><b>What are your favorite Zoot products and why?</b></p> <p>Prophet!! It is such a great wetsuit! So flexible and easy to peel off.</p> <p><b>What is your proudest accomplishment?</b></p> <p>I came to the U.S. in 1996 and am still here!</p> <p><b>What motivates you?</b></p> <p>Having a good training and a good race make me want to do more.</p> <p><b>What is your pre-race meal?</b></p> <p>Pasta Bolognese for the night before the race; A big bowl of mixed cereal (three different kinds) with a banana and blueberries for the race day morning</p> <p><b>What is in your triathlon bag that you cannot live without?</b></p> <p>Race Essentials....
