Personal Bio: Born in Colorado, I moved to Montana for continued education, finding my place in a strong community of triathletes. I opted out of the 9-5 job, pursuing my training and racing in Durango, Colorado. After several fairly successful seasons, I broke through in 2010 with an Ironman and 70.3 win. Now I am proud to have the support of Zoot for all my clothing, compression, wetsuit, and shoe needs as I chase the dream of being World Champion.

How did you first get into triathlons?

I first started racing as a member of the university club team in Missoula, Montana. I was part of Team Stampede, and spent the entire summer in 2006 living out of a Suburban and racing every weekend in the Pacific Northwest and Canada.

What was the first race you ever participated in and what place did you finish?

The first race I ever did was the Montana World Championships, also known as the Grizzly Triathlon. It was a sprint distance event, and I finished 2nd place to then professional Matt Seeley by 19 seconds.

What is your favorite race?

I love racing the Grizzly Triathlon, Boise, and Wildflower.

What is your favorite workout?

I don't really have a session that is repeated over and over again. My training relies on mixing things up and keeping it fun. So, generically, I would say my favorite workout is riding my bike in a beautiful setting, when the body is keen and feeling sharp.

What are your favorite Zoot products and why?

I absolutely love the Ultra running shorts because they are chafe free! I also love training in my Ultra Kalani shoes, and racing in the Ultra TT 4.0's. The shoes are ridiculously comfortable and light. Finally, I couldn't go without the Prophet for wetsuit swims... The flexibility and buoyancy are unmatched.

What is your proudest accomplishment?

My proudest moment in sport has been winning big races, specifically Ironman. It was the culmination of so much hard work and focus, and to share it with my family was very special. Otherwise, I am very proud of my world travels, and my relationships with so may good friends. I lead a blessed existence.

What motivates you?

I'm not sure I can answer that question accurately. I suppose it's a desire to see what I am capable of, how hard I can push. It's also just a passion for the lifestyle... Living each day outdoors, benefiting my health, meeting great people in all areas of the world.

What is your pre-race meal?

Typically I eat bagels with almond butter and bananas. Coffee is a must.

What is your pre-race ritual?

Visualization, visualization, visualization. I love to do a nice activation run to get the body going, and listen to my music.

What is in your triathlon bag that you cannot live without?

Body glide.

What are your goals for the 2011 season?

Defend Ironman Lake Placid.

Events you are racing in this season:

Ironman 70.3 Muncle (July 9), Ford Ironman Lake Placid (July 24), Rohto Ironman 70.3 Boulder (August 7), Ironman 70.3 Lake Stevens (August 14), Ironman 70.3 Timberman (August 21), Ironman World Championship 70.3- Las Vegas (September 11), Ironman 70.3 Branson (September 18), Ford Ironman World Championship (October 8), Rohto Ironman 70.3 Miami (October 30)
